The science of biology is based on observation, data collection, and data analysis. In recent years, technological tools have been developed that make data collection and analysis much easier, more efficient, and more accurate. Whereas the Biology student used to have to write data in a data table and then transfer the data to graph paper, the graphing calculator now allows the student to quickly enter data and graph it so that the data can be more fully evaluated. In this book, we have attempted to include topics from the major themes in a typical high school biology class. Each topic or chapter contains sample data that may be collected while studying that topic, along with instructions for entering, graphing, and analyzing those data on the TI-83 Plus. The book is filled with in-depth, evaluative questions that will move students beyond the lowest levels of biological understanding to more analytical levels. It is our hope that this book serves as a valuable tool for biology educators and students alike in their quest to more fully understand phenomena in the living world.
